» Mortal Sin at EWTN
By Steve Kellmeyer | Published 02/23/2006 | Justice , Religion , Interviews | Unrated  | printer version

I recently sent my new book, Designed to Fail: Catholic Education in America, to EWTN for a possible inclusion on Doug Kecks' BookMarks program.

Now, in the interests of full disclosure, I should say that I've never actually watched any EWTN program, nor have I heard more than a literal handful of their radio shows. We don't own a television, and the radio - when it is on - is generally tuned to classical music. Still, many Catholics swear by EWTN, so it is a useful place to make a Catholic offering known.

Now, Designed to Fail has been very well-received by reviewers, so imagine my surprise when I discovered the book had been turned down for theological reasons.

» I FEEL SORRY FOR JESSICA SIMPSON
By J. Grant Swank | Published 02/19/2006 | Religion | Rating:  | printer version

I’m concerned about her soul.

Now don’t email me if you’re an unbeliever or worldly as sin or don’t hold to biblical morals for it will only be a waste of your time and mine. I already know what you’d email me. So don’t.

But I see JS’ photo on everything. Just today at the grocery store I was buying some raisin bread and some other items that wouldn’t interest you at all. While going to the check out counter, I saw JS’ picture to the right and left. She’s hanging out with this new guy or crying the blues over something. Whatever.

Anyhow, I know the rag mags tell lies. And probably everything they’ve printed about her is worth a bar of soap. But at least some bits they pick up must be factual for they’ve played out in JS’ real life. And it’s that play out that bothers me. For I am concerned about this beautiful young lady’s soul.

» It Ain't Natural
By Steve Kellmeyer | Published 02/14/2006 | Education , Religion | Unrated  | printer version

As most people know, the University of Wisconsin-Madison has long been a hot-bed of support for intelligent design theory. Take for example, their biology department. The entire staff of the biology department insists, and has insisted for quite some time, that what we see happening in the world is not natural, rather, it is the result of actions taken by an intelligence not properly part of nature or the natural world.

Similarly, the American Association for the Advancement of Science is a strong supporter of intelligent design theory. Just one year ago, on February 19, 2005, the AAAS released a report that insisted supernatural phenomena were having long-term, serious impacts on the world we inhabit.

» LLOYD MARCUS: WHY DOES THE WORLD HATE JESUS?
By J. Grant Swank | Published 02/12/2006 | Religion | Unrated  | printer version

J. Grant Swank, Jr.

All Jesus did was good. But most of the world has always hated Jesus. Must be the devil made the world do it. Must be.

Now Jesus, His church, the Bible, worship and Christians are painted in art by a Floridian who is a believer. However, his artwork is not a match to be displayed for Black History Month in his hometown. So goes the hate leveled against Jesus.

Of course, Jesus said to His grace children: "They hate me. They will hate you." Can’t say He didn’t warn us. After all, like Him we are strangers merely passing through to Glory Land. So be it. In other words, "Amen."

Lloyd Marcus, artist, has been shut out of the hall where his paintings should have their significant place. But because his work contains "Christian symbols" that are too impressive for the authorities, they won’t appear for the public to see, according to Carl Limbach and his NewsMax.com staff.

» CHRISTIAN GOD IS LOVE. MUSLIM GOD IS ‘GREAT’
By J. Grant Swank | Published 02/6/2006 | Religion | Unrated  | printer version

"God is great!" shouts Imam Samudra, charged with planning and seeing through the attacks that murdered 202 persons in Bali, Indonesia, last year. He threw his fist to the sky and shouted to his attorneys to join him in his exclamation that "God is great!"

God is indeed great. "God is great. God is good. Now we thank Him for our food."

Many of us learned that table grace as children. Therefore, we have been indoctrinated that God, the Christian deity, is surely great. There could be much more doctrinal dissertation provided from biblical data; but let that simple prayer suffice.
