Dismantling of America's Military

News came AGAIN of more cuts and reductions in our military budget and personnel.  I should not be shocked, but as we all have seen the past several months these kind of jolts from the current administration is an everyday event.  The U.S. Second Fleet as described in this article are on the hit list of reductions by the Department of Defense.    The military personnel within the Second Fleet seriously question whether the "big brass" at the Pentagon understand the Second Fleet's role.  The U.S. Second Fleet helps prepare and train the sailors, soldiers and airmen before they are deployed for any kind of mission.  Their main responsibility are for ships and units for the Atlantic territory.

Unfortunately, this will also affect the local area with a lost of jobs around these cuts.  That does not seem to matter to the current administration.  Just look at the White House recently admitting it possessed documents that contained evidence of their knowledge and understanding that the current offshore drilling ban would cost 23,000 jobs.

At a time when we have increased threats from Iran, North Korea, China, Russia and Venezuela, one would think that our national defense would be a higher priority in our leaders' minds.  My friends, it is not on their high priority list.  In my simple-minded opinion, it is dereliction of duty on the part of the White House, Department of Defense and Congress.   This applies to both Republicans and Democrats.

It was bad enough when Clinton hacked up the military in the mid-90's.   Now we see a full frontal assault on our military and defense policies that have kept us secure for several decades.  We have seen:

  • A proposed START treaty with Russia that enforces nothing but restricting America's response and modernization of our nuclear arsenal.
  • A Supreme Court Justice appointed by Obama that kicked out the military from Harvard.
  • A reduction in missile defense research and deployment.
  • The cancellation of purchasing additional units of the most advanced and superior fighter jet that would continue to ensure our air superiority.

These and many more actions should not surprise us.  Remember two years ago Obama said he would cut our military.  And he is very much on his way towards that goal.  The video linked here is almost 2 years old and people back then were too blind not to see it for it really is.

As the economy drags on with depressing performance and job losses, why are our leaders so focused on cutting defense?  The U.S. policy of "peace through strength" has enabled a broader stability beyond our borders for more than two decades.  Yet now, that stability is wavering because the U.S. Defense Policies are watered down and are not supported by Congress financially nor philosophically.

The real focus should be on entitlement spending reductions.  BIG reductions.  Entitlements are destroying our economy and financial standing with the world.  The military's budget does not hold a candle to the kind of spending and debt that entitlements generates.  We MUST tell our leaders to preserve our military and support it by all means.  If we do not speak, the process of chipping away at America's military will continue and jeopardize the security of our nation in the near future.
