Have you read the newspapers? President Obama says he wants somebody on the Supreme Court who believes in "empathy."
Merriam-Webster's dictionary defines empathy as: "imaginative projection of a subjective state," and, "understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to...feelings ...without having the feelings communicated in an objectively explicit manner." Subjective ... not objective. Obama has said that is what he wants on the court - someone who is not objective on our constitution or laws but someone who instead uses imagination.
In other words Obama is already starting to the lay the groundwork for an ultra-liberal Supreme Court Justice who does not care about the rule of law or our traditional way of life. Obama is laying the groundwork for someone who will sling our Court and our nation toward the left - a left that does not support the constitution, one nation under God or the principles of our founding fathers.
We cannot sit by and allow this to happen. We must speak up and put him, and the Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, on notice.
Liberals are salivating over Senator Arlen Specter's recent defection to the liberal Democrats.
Specter had been a ranking GOP member of the Judiciary Committee. He had been a likely vote against Obama's nominees. Now that Specter has taken a deal from the Democrats to try and save his own political power he is in a position to help push through Obama's nominees.
Liberals in the Obama administration were said to have known Justice Souter might retire.
The liberal leadership in the Senate has given Specter a Judiciary subcommittee Chairmanship as a "thank you" card for switching to their side. Specter now holds a gavel and a lease on a new political life as a payback just in time for the critical vote on a Supreme Court vacancy.
Specter himself admitted he switched parties and threw his lot in with Obama and the liberals only because his poll showed he could not win a primary next year against a conservative.
Obama dangled the carrot in advance of this crucial Supreme Court nominee battle and Specter bit. Now the nation may pay the price with an ultra-liberal Supreme Court Justice who doesn't believe in life, liberty or the constitution, but who follows the "empathetic" liberal line.
We need to stand up and fight back. And when you sign the petition below you can add a personal note to Arlen Specter yourself in the message box, if you like.
You may have heard news reports concerning the political philosophy behind some of the names being circulated as likely Supreme Court nominees.
Each has an ultra-liberal background or comes from the leftist philosophy.
The left believes feelings should take precedent over the law. The left believes liberal Justices should legislate from the bench.
The left is leading the charge to take "God" out of our local high school graduation ceremonies and our public displays. Now they are salivating over the prospect of a judge who will fight for their beliefs on the Supreme Court.
Remember, Justices serve for life. They are there regardless of who is in the White House. After Obama leaves office, any new Justice he gets confirmed can still enact his liberal doctrine for years to come.
Make no mistake about it, unless there is opposition Obama is going to choose a person as far as to the left as possible. In today's WASHINGTON POST they write, "by making empathy a core qualification, (Obama) is .... demanding what he has called 'a broader vision for what America should be."
At the same time Obama says laws should be enforced fairly, he has opposed previous Supreme Court nominees because they enforced the actual letter of the law.
In his campaign speeches Obama spoke of needing courts and Justices who supported spreading the wealth. He said the nation should be a place "where we share life's risks and rewards with each other." As a Senator, in opposing previous judges for courts, he did so because they upheld the law when it happened to favor business. He alluded to the fact the Senate should oppose judges who made decisions that in his mind were those where, "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer," employing a favored liberal line used against business risk-takers when liberals want to re-distribute wealth.
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell has said Obama seems interested in picking judges on their perceived sympathy for certain groups.
We do not need Supreme Court Justices who are committed to a liberal ideology, we need Justices who have integrity and objectivity while supporting the principles of our constitution.
Obama will soon make a nomination to the Court. He will do so behind the doors of the White House but we must make sure he knows that the American people are watching.
Now is the time to send a message to Obama and his political tea leaf readers that they better not go too far to the left.
Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold hearings and make a decision on this nominee. Arlen Specter is one of those Senators. We need to send Arlen Specter and the other Members of the Judiciary Committee that we are watching.
