Hold Liberal Charlie Rangel Accountable For His Actions

I am sure you have seen the news. Last night the liberal Democrats, led by Nancy Pelosi, voted down an effort to remove Representative Charlie Rangel (D-NY) from the Chairmanship of the Ways and Means Committee.

You'll remember Charlie Rangel. We wrote you about Charlie Rangel last year.

Charlie Rangel is one of the most powerful liberals in Congress. As Chairman of Ways and Means he controls huge amounts of power. He decides how tax laws are written and the federal government is funded. He has been in Congress for more than 35 years and has a lifetime ACU conservative rating of only a whopping 3.7 % - meaning he has voted against conservative positions over 96% of the time.

And, while he has been voting for massive liberal spending and for the taxing of average Americans citizens, this is the same Charlie Rangel who himself has been avoiding full disclosure of his own income for years and years and years.

That's right. Rangel has now admitted that he failed to report as much as $1.3 million in income from 2002 to 2006. In 2008, his home state New York Post newspaper said he also failed to disclose $75,000 in rental income. He is being investigated for trips he has taken to the Caribbean for conferences and for almost half a million dollars worth of unreported assets.

Liberals in Congress are trying to avoid holding him accountable. Instead, they want to use his decades of built up power in Washington to push through new taxes for a government health care bill.

ACU has said it before and we say it again now. Charlie Rangel should resign from the Chairman of Ways and Means.

We should all go further and call on Congressman Charlie Rangel to do the right thing and resign from Congress, period.

House Republican Leader John Boehner got it right when last night he said that Pelosi's actions protecting Rangel are "just the latest example of Speaker Pelosi breaking her promise to have the most open and ethic Congress in history."

Like so many of their election day speeches where liberals talk of conservative principles and then walk into Congress to push liberal policies - this is just one more example of liberal hollow rhetoric.

Even more shocking than the fact that the liberals refused to remove him last night, is the fact that Rangel himself voted to stop his own removal.

When a matter comes up that directly affects a Member of Congress, most abstain and do not vote. In fact, Members of the Ethics Committee (of both parties) did not vote so they could maintain the appearance of impartiality.

However, even on a simple matter of doing the right thing on this vote, Rangel still chose the wrong path.

Congressman Rangel should be held accountable. Help us fight for the accountability.

FOX NEWS has reported that Charlie Rangel is going to submit a House Democrats written bill on health care by Friday. FOX NEWS reported that he was then going to look for pay-fors to fund their scheme. That's right, Charlie Rangel is looking for more ways to tax the American people even while he is under an ethical cloud.

Today we got a sneak peek into the taxes that might be coming. The WALL STREET JOURNAL's editorial page reported that Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in an interviewer that she is open to pushing and promoting a VAT tax, known as a Value Added Tax onto the back of every taxpayer, including the middle class.

The WALL STREET JOURNAL stated, "The allure of a VAT (tax) for politicians is that it applies to every level of production or service, rakes in piles of money, and is largely hidden from those who ultimately pay it-namely, consumers."

That's right, even after the President promised the American people that he would not tax the middle class, his liberal alies in Congress led by Nancy Pelosi and Charlie Rangel are looking to tax the middle class anyway. It is the classic bait and switch.

... We are facing potential new taxes from a Member of Congress who himself is under investigation for failing to disclose income.

If he can't pay his own taxes he should not be forcing new taxes on the backs of Americans.

While Charlie Rangel has supported tax after tax after tax, he has been avoiding taxes himself - and spending our money on liberal projects to boot.

In fact Charlie Rangel was so bold as to even trumpet the fact that he voted against defunding ACORN just last month.

That's right, just as is was being investigated for failing to report income himself, he continues to spend the taxpayers money as if it was his own.

In a press release on his official House website, Rangel said, "It may be that ACORN is guilty of certain infractions, and if so, the organization should be sanctioned by the courts - not Congress." This statement from a man who Chairs the committee responsible for finding funding for Congressional spending.

It is time for Charlie Rangel to do the right thing and resign.

HOW CAN PELOSI, CONTINUE TO PROTECT CHARLES RANGEL, IF I WAS ACCUSED, I WOULD EVENTUALLY GO TO JAIL. NANCY PELOSI, MAKES ME SICK AND SHOULD BE THROWN OUT OF CONGRESS. I HAVE BEEN A LIFE LONG DEMOCRAT BUT THIS ELECTION, I WILL VOTE REPUBLICAN, ALONG WITH MOST OF MY FAMILY.I ALSO FEEL C.N.N. SHOULD BE A LITTLE MORE UP FRONT ON THIS CORRUPTION AND PURSUE THIS CHARGES. I AM ALSO A FAITHFUL C.N.N. FAN BUT I AM DISTURBED WITH YOUR LACK OF INTEREST IN THESE CHARGES. SINCERELY DAN G. Time to make the system balanced and fair! If one of us tax paying hard working citizens did this..................we would be thrown in prison.
