Dave Reichert's Primary Problem

Dave Reichert is supported by the herd of RiNOs

On Tuesday, August 17, 2010, Washington State Republicans in the Eighth district have a clear choice between the establishment candidate, incumbent Dave Reichert, and several challengers, only one of whom stands out as a true principled conservative with the gonads to clearly articulate those principles.

Some call Reichert a "pragmatist". I call him a waffler. Elected as a conservative Republican in 2004, he has no real list of Congressional accomplishments. But, he does have a rather inconsistent voting record on many issues:

  • Reichert voted for Obama's economic stimulus package.
  • Reichert voted against the ending of the federally-imposed, deep-water drilling moratorium, in spite of the fact that all applicants for new drilling permits would have to meet new, tougher safety standards.
  • Reichert voted for the cash for clunkers and home buyer credits programs, which have done nothing but raid the pockets of hard-working people and distort the overall economic picture by artificially propping up select industries and inflating GDP.
  • Reichert voted for the budget-busting, job-killing, freedom-raping cap and trade bill, which, according to Obama if you were paying attention during his campaign, "would make your energy bills necessarily skyrocket."
  • Reichert voted for a huge expansion of hate crime laws, which only serve to further divide us by creating separate and distinct, protected classes of citizens based on one's skin color, place of birth sexual preference or other arbitrary measure.
  • Reichert voted against the removal of Charles Rangel from his committee chairmanship. Although he quietly resigned, Rangel is now embroiled in an ethics scandal involving multiple counts of official corruption.
  • Reichert voted all over the map on unemployment insurance, sometimes voting to extend benefits, other times voting not to.
  • Reichert voted for CAFTA, the Central American Free-Trade Agreement, which means mountains of more government regulation and more disadvantaged American workers.
  • Reichert voted to kill Terri Schiavo. His reasoning: His own failure to reconcile his "conservative" belief in less-intrusive government with the need to get involved and two family tragedies in which both family members were taken off life support. But, He had no such compunction about expanding the role, reach and financial tyranny of the federal government. His family history, and not the wishes of Terri's own family were what informed Reichert's decision to punt the the defenseless Schiavo while she was slowly starved and dehydrated to death.

To a person, all of Reichert's Republican challengers speak as if they understand the nation's problems. They talk about facing challenges, taking back the American Dream and rebuilding communities. But, that and Nancy Pelosi's Reign or Terror as Queen of the World are what got us into this mess. None of Reichert's challengers will go on record with any specific detail about what they would actually do to fix the country. No one except Ernest Huber.

Retired military veteran, proud, yet humble Christian and stalwart Reagan conservative, Huber's website explains, not just his positions on the issues, but his rationale for adopting those positions. He is a strong, social and fiscal conservative with a long, multi-disciplinary record of exemplary military service in the Army, Navy and Air Force, including intelligence and counter-terrorism. Huber says what he means and means what he says and has only one goal in mind: To represent the people of Washington State's 8th district in their efforts to wrest control of their lives back from the tyrannical federal government. Huber is retired. He spent over 20 years of his life in defense of this country. But, he saw the shredding of our Constitution as a call to action and he's ready to serve.

Dave Reichert is supported by the herd of RiNOs that abandoned conservatism long ago. While they listed Reichert's name as the only Republican on the ballot despite the fact that there are three, they lack the courage the call it what it is; an endorsement. Reichert has had his opportunity to make a difference in the lives of his constituents. Many believe he has failed. Like all Republicans who chose to moderate their positions in favor of a kinder, gentler GOP, he has placed party over principle. The Republican party has been emasculated in the process and can't even stop a simple resolution, much less a trillion dollar entitlement program.

For conservatives in Washington State's 8th district who haven't yet cast the most important vote in recent memory, now is your time to reclaim the Constitution. Vote for my friend, brother-in-arms and shipmate Ernest Huber.
