What's Next on Health Care

As one person put it the only bipartisan act from last night's health care vote was the opposition.

While not one single Republican voted for the Obamacare health care bill pushed by Nancy Pelosi, 34 Democrats also voted NO.

So while the liberal Democrat leadership claimed they wanted bipartisanship on health care, it was only the opposition to their plans that drew bipartisan support.

Immediately after the vote our Chairman, David Keene, issued a statement saying the following: "With this vote, the U.S. House has chosen big government over freedom and bureaucracy over people."  I couldn't agree more.

Now the question becomes, what's next?

We want to know what you think so we can share your opinions with conservatives on Capitol Hill.  So, we have placed a survey onto our response system.  We want to know if conservatives should:
  • 1. Continue fighting the reconciliation bill on health care that is now going back into the Senate affecting the bill passed last night.
  • 2. Join in and support various state Attorney Generals and other state leaders who are going to fight the Obamacare mandate in the bill
  • 3. Work to explain to the voters what these Democrats did as they face a re-election campaign in November.
  • 4. ALL OF THE ABOVE
Please let us know what you think conservatives and conservative leaders on Capitol Hill should do next.

As we get results, we will work to make your views known among conservative leaders.

As early as tomorrow the Senate could begin debating the reconciliation bill.

This is a bill passed along with the others last night by the House that will make immediately changes to the health care bill Obama is about to sign into law.  Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell has said, "Senate Republicans will now do everything in our power to replace the massive tax hikes, Medicare cuts and mandates with the reforms our constituents have been calling for throughout this debate."

In the reconciliation process, Newsweek reports, "there are still a whole lot of opportunities for Republicans to shape the future health care reform bill."

At the same time, FOXNews reports "the health care reform fight isn't over. It's just changing venues.  Now that the House, in a historic vote, has passed the Senate's bill and sent it to the president's desk, state lawmakers and attorneys general are already lining up to challenge its constitutionality and wage an outside-the-Beltway war against it in the courts."

Both Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum announced they will challenge the health care bill in the courts.   They are expected to sue over the bill's mandate that requires everyone to buy health insurance.  They are expected to be joined by others, including people like state lawmaker Robert Bentley in Alabama who has already filed legislation to stop Obamacare there.

The liberal Democrats who voted for this bill must know that they will need to defend their actions when they seek re-election.  Several organizations, including ACU, are discussing how this vote will impact their fate.  If Americans really knew all of the provisions in the health care plan would they be happy that their Member of Congress voted in favor of it?

Today is day to reflect and plan for the future.

Please let us know what you think should be done next on health care.

Fill out the survey here and support ACU so we can make sure your opinion is known.

Thank you for your continued support.
