In an effort to hurry through even more spending the liberals in Congress are now trying to raise the nation's debt ceiling.

I am sure you are familiar with the debt ceiling.

The debt ceiling was put in place to ensure that there are at least some checks and balances as it relates to reckless spending by Congress and borrowing money to pay for it.

But, after spending nearly a trillion dollars on a failed stimulus package and billions more in liberal special interest earmarks, the liberals in the House and Senate are conspiring behind closed doors to raise the nation's debt ceiling so they can spend even more.

As our nation hovers close to hitting the debt ceiling, Congress should see this as a warning that the spending should stop.

Instead the liberals that control Congress are trying to spend even more.

We must demand that Congress cut spending and not raise the debt ceiling.  ACU is fighting this battle and we need your help.

HELP ACU OPPOSE ANY ATTEMPT TO RAISE THE DEBT CEILING FURTHER.  TELL CONGRESS THAT THEY NEED TO CUT SPENDING, NOT INCREASE THE FEDERAL DEBT.

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) notes the debt ceiling started with a law in 1917, and the limitation was modified into a ceiling on the total amount of most Federal debt outstanding. The current system has been fully in place since 1941.

The ceiling is supposed to help keep our national finances healthy and our country from becoming a poor investment in the world.

Now with rampant federal spending, the liberals in Congress are trying to raise that ceiling and threaten our nation's standing.

Worse, Congress already raised the ceiling some just last month.   Congress voted to increase the debt ceiling by $290 billion to $12.394 trillion.

Congress already raised the ceiling to over $12 trillion.  Just think about that.  Now they want to raise it more?

HELP ACU OPPOSE ANY ATTEMPT TO RAISE THE DEBT CEILING FURTHER.  SIGN THE PETITION NOW TO TELL CONGRESS THAT THEY NEED TO CUT SPENDING, NOT INCREASE THE FEDERAL DEBT.

The Washington Post has reported that the Senate is picking up debate on a plan to "raise the nation's debt limit by $1.9 trillion, a move that Democrats hope will see the Treasury through this fall's congressional elections."

Market News International's Washington Bureau reports that Senate Republicans have indicated that they plan to offer amendments that cap discretionary spending and rescind spending from last year's stimulus bill.  We applaud their efforts.

Now we need to send a strong message, that we back them up.

The Post says that the record increase the liberals want would raise the Treasury's legal ceiling for borrowing to $14.3 trillion -"about the size of the nation's overall economy."

Read that carefully, the liberals want to increase the "debt ceiling to about the size of the nation's overall economy."

We absolutely must fight back.

HELP ACU OPPOSE ANY ATTEMPT TO RAISE THE DEBT CEILING FURTHER.  SIGN THE PETITION NOW TO TELL CONGRESS THAT THEY NEED TO CUT SPENDING, NOT INCREASE THE FEDERAL DEBT.

When you sign the petition we also going to provide you phone numbers for your Senators so you can call them to also urge them to oppose increasing the ceiling.

The liberals just want to keep spending.  They want to fuel their continued efforts toward government-run health care, they want to push through new federal programs and they are even discussing doing more stimulus spending.

The Washington Post already reports that, "Treasury expects to exceed the current debt limit of $12.4 trillion as soon as next month."

Now the liberals led by Pelosi and Reid, with the backing of Obama, want to try and spend even more.

At some point it has to stop.

HELP ACU OPPOSE ANY ATTEMPT TO RAISE THE DEBT CEILING FURTHER.  SIGN THE PETITION NOW TO TELL CONGRESS THAT THEY NEED TO CUT SPENDING, NOT INCREASE THE FEDERAL DEBT.

The last budget signed by the President and pushed through Congress already assumed a deficit of almost $1.7 trillion without any long term control of the budget deficit.

Now the liberals are trying to increase the overall debt ceiling so they can pass even more budgets like this one.

We need to fight back.  We need your help by signing the petition here and supporting this effort of ACU.

Together we will send a message that the spending must stop.

Please get our country out of the biggest treat it faces, the debt. Americans and their government need to role up their sleeves, get to work, and stope spending borrowed money. This is only one voter (but not alone) that thinks the United States federal government needs to put a tourniquet on to stop the bleeding which is the deficit. Please fix the hard problems (medicare, medicaid, and social security) and just imagine what else will be fixed, the deficit and dept. Please.
