Between now and January 20th, Mr. Bush will have the opportunity to do what most Presidents traditionally do at the end of their terms.

Mr. Bush can issue pardons to those who deserve them in our society.  We here at ACU now want to join the chorus to urge President Bush to issue Pardons to former Border Control Agents Ramos and Compean.

So many of us know the story of agents Ramos and Compean.

On one fateful day they were doing their jobs, protecting our border, when a drug smuggler attempted to cross our national border.  They urged him to stop.  He fled.  So they shot and wounded this criminal.  In turn, they now sit in confinement in federal prison for doing their job to protect our nation.

The drug dealer was actually abandoning a vehicle full of more than 700 pounds of drugs as he was attempting to flee back to the Mexican side of the border.

As a WASHINGTON TIMES newspaper editorial has said, "Here's the awful turn: Federal authorities subsequently located Mr. Aldrete-Davila (the drug smuggler) in Mexico to offer immunity in exchange for his testimony against the border agents.

He then filed a $5 million suit against the federal government for violating his civil rights. On this man's testimony, the border agents were convicted."

Our government went to a drug smuggler to prosecute our border agents who were  protecting our nation and our national border.

In April of last year, this same Mexican drug dealer who was offered immunity to help prosecute our agents was again arrested and this time convicted of separate offenses.

Mr. Aldrete-Davila, the Mexican drug dealer, pleaded guilty in federal court to several drug charges. These included two counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, one count of conspiracy to import a controlled substance and one count of conspiracy to possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

And this was the man, a Mexican criminal, with whom federal prosecutors worked to convict Ramos and Compean for shooting him in the buttocks as he fled our nation leaving his illegal stash behind.

Clearly these men have sat in prison long enough.  Their families have already endured enough pain and trauma.

Now that we are under the clock with just a few short days left to Mr. Bush's presidency, it is time for Mr. Bush to do the right thing and leave office having pardoned these men.

Several Members of Congress have already joined the cry to also urge a pardon for Ramos and Compean.  Talk radio show hosts have also joined this cry.  Now it is time for you, under the auspices of the ACU, to issue your cry for justice as well.

Last December 23, just before Christmas, President Bush issued pardons to almost 20 people.  Ramos and Compean were not on that list.

Instead, Mr. Bush issued pardons to men who were convicted of: possession of an unregistered firearm and cocaine distribution, counterfeiting, aiding and abetting embezzlement of bank money and even conspiracy to harbor and transport illegal aliens... just to name a few.  However, our agents were not on the list.

Please join our efforts to communicate with the President over these last few days.

Now is the time to act with ACU.

The ACU is standing firm at this time to call upon the President to issue these pardons.

With your help the President will listen to us and issue the pardons these men deserve.

Please help us point out to the President that justice is served not from keeping the unjust prosecution and conviction of these men in place, but in issuing a pardon to Ramos and Compean.

Im all in favor ofthe pardon. These two brave men wereonly doing their job. If more would act in the same manor there would be fewer trying to cross the border.
