Help Fight a Tax on Health Insurance Benefits

Barack Obama promised the American people that he would not raise taxes on people making less than $250,000.

Now he is seeking to break his promise.

Not only is he seeking to break the promise, he wants to raise taxes on Health Insurance benefits.

It is bad enough when a President wants to raise taxes, especially at a time of economic uncertainty.  But to do so while breaking a promise and placing an additional paperwork burden on small business and an additional tax on the backs of workers by taxing their current Health Insurance benefits is almost mind boggling.

The Washington Post reported yesterday that Obama won't rule out a health benefits tax.

On Sunday, in an appearance on ABC's THIS WEEK with George Stephanopoulos, White House political and senior advisor David Axelrod said the President, "has no interest in drawing lines in the sand  on the issue of how to pay for the costly health reform plan making its way through Congress."

This is despite the fact that candidate Barack Obama said families making under $250,000 would not see "any form of tax increase, not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes."  The Associated Press wrote, "if...Obama compromises on that point, it would reverse a campaign tax promise."

This is just one more failed and broken promise or statement from the Obama administration.

It is rumored that some Republican Senators are actually considering going along with such a tax along with health care reform. These Senators include Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa.

Everyone agrees that health care could use some reform.  However, reform for reform's sake is never good.

Using the guise of health care reform to increase federal spending by almost 1 trillion taxpayer dollars, increase taxes on American workers and create a government-run health care program is not a solution.

It is big government, big spending and it will be a big waste of taxpayer dollars while helping to undermine care.

Help us fight it.

The Post reported that, "under repeated questioning from host George Stephanopoulos, Axelrod said the White House is open to 'a lot of different formulations' for paying for health-care reform."

The liberal Democrats from Obama in the White House to Nancy Pelosi in the House just want to use health care reform to tax and spend.  They refuse to acknowledge that Canadian and European-style health care systems create bloated budgets, government waste and the rationing of care.

They are going to try and use Obama's so-called grassroots army to push it through.

A columnist for the Boston Globe wrote: "The push for a major healthcare overhaul presents a significant test of the president's ability to harness grass-roots energy and convert it into governing power. Obama is counting on having his activists promote healthcare as a two-sided choice - either take urgent action now or lose the opportunity for a long time..."

We have to be the conservative voice that pushes back!

Who will have to administer a Health Benefits tax?

Who usually has to administer any tax that goes on the backs of workers?  We all know it is their employers.  These include America's small business owners who are struggling in the current economy.

They may have to wade through mountains of new paperwork, spend money on creating new systems and take additional deductions from worker's paychecks.

Some of these business owners might have to increase prices to keep pace and those costs will land on consumers.

And even though some in Congress say these taxes will only effect so-called "high end" plans we all know what happens when the government opens the door to a new form of taxes.  We will never, ever see the end of it and it will only be the beginning before expansion of the tax.
