Stop Obama's Weakening of America

Peace Through Strength

This has been the hallmark of American foreign policy for decades. President Reagan used it to help us to win the cold war.

Peace through strength has worked. Now Barack Obama is in retreat.

Since the time he started his election campaign Obama seemed more focused on appeasing the perception of liberal leaders in other countries that we needed to be friendlier, rather than focusing on protecting our nation. Slowly he is trying to send a message that you need not worry about America's strength.

Obama has been photographed bowing in front of foreign leaders. Obama has tried to close Guantanamo Bay, which holds some of the world's most dangerous anti-American leaders just because some other nations think it makes us look bad. Just after his election he stood on foreign soil in France and seemed to apologize for America's past actions ...standing in a nation where there are thousands of dead on Normandy's shores from our past actions protecting others.

Only Barack Obama would snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by abandoning the Peace Through Strength policy that has protected America.

You may have read about Obama's Nuclear Summit where he announced a new treaty with Russia.

For years Presidents Reagan, Bush and other conservative leaders have tried to create a Peace Shield around our nation that would shoot down or destroy nuclear missiles that would harm our cities, towns and neighborhoods.

Russia has opposed it because a shield tips the scales of balance by limiting the success of any attack against America.

But under the headline, "Stopping Missile Defense," the Wall Street Journal uncovered that in the treaty Obama is giving up some of our options for deploying the shield.

They noted that "starting with the Reagan Strategic Defense Initiative, the Kremlin has sought to tie America's hands on missile defense." They go on to note that is exactly what the Russians now claim they have gotten from Obama's new nuclear treaty.

The Senate Armed Services Committee could begin hearings on this treaty very soon. So, now is the time to send this message. In addition to the petition, ACU is also going to provide you the names of Committee members so you can contact them independently as well if you so choose when you sign the petition.

Republican Leader John Boehner put it well when he said, "The Administration (Obama) has demonstrated a predictable pattern since it took office: while it makes concessions to countries acting contrary to U.S. national interests, it ignores or snubs the commitments, shared values and sacrifices of many of our country's best allies."

Does anyone really believe that rogue nations and those that compete with us on the world stage would just turn the other cheek in negotiations if America did not appear strong and ready to defend herself? Barack Obama seems to think so.

This new START treaty follows other actions by Obama since he took office to cut off funding and limit new resources to continue the deployment of our missile defense shield.

Last year Obama abandoned plans to put missile defenses in Poland and the Czech Republic because Russia raised objections.

Now Obama is taking more steps toward limiting America's options for missile defense because of more Russian objections.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said Senators must evaluate U.S. missile defenses as the Senate considers ratification of the treaty. "The Senate will now have an opportunity to review how this treaty and the president's budget affects the three main criteria necessary for favorable consideration: America's ability to verify compliance, its impact on our national defense against the threat of nuclear-armed missiles, and the modernization and continued strength of our nuclear arsenal," he said.
